Welcome aboard gentlemen.
President Jester opened for discussion the idea of replacing the National Fallen Firefighter’s Foundation in the bylaws with the Saint Baldrick’s Foundation; a worthwhile cause that raises money for children’s cancer research. After a brief discussion, it was decided that since the bylaws do not limit the society from raising funds for other charities aside from the three mentioned by name, there was no need to amend the bylaws regarding this issue.
The discussion continued regarding the Saint Baldrick’s Foundation. It was decided to look into the possibility of hosting a fundraiser (head-shaving event) specifically for this cause in 2011 around Saint Patrick’s Day.
After viewing a list of potential societal names, Brother Wells made a motion, which was seconded, to name the society the Delmarva Emerald Society. The motion was passed unanimously.
Funding to start out the treasury was discussed. Monies will possibly be needed to file our 501 (c)(3) Not For Profit application. Treasurer Trimper offered to fully fund the application fee if it was not gratis.
Annual dues were discussed. Brother Paige made a motion, which was seconded, to set the 2010 annual dues at $17.00. The motion was passed unanimously. Dues paid at this meeting follow:
President Jester and Brothers Strobel and McIntyre each paid $17.00.
Treasurer Trimper and Brothers Wells, Paige, and Garratt each paid $20.00, donating the $3.00 balance to the society.
A checking account will be opened at the Bank of Ocean City with the dues paid thus far. These dues total $131.00
President Jester advised that the bagpipe instructor in Easton is unable to give lessons at the present time. There is a DVD and practice chanter available on the internet for approximately $75.00. He will forward the web site address to all members in the near future. Brother O’Barsky advised that the second of his member invitees is already playing the chanter and may be able to assist those starting out. Additionally, President Jester is awaiting further contact from the gentleman who was a pipe major at VMI as a possible instructor.
It looks as though the Ocean City FOOLS are planning a fundraiser on the Tuesday of MSFA Convention. It was decided to not compete with that and to concentrate on the Sunday beginning MSFA week event at Hooters on 123rd Street. President Jester and Treasurer Trimper will meet with the management in the next few days and secure the date.
The next meeting was set for Thursday 3 June 2010 at the Brew River Dock Bar in Salisbury, MD commencing at 18:00 hours.
There being no other business, a motion to adjourn was made by Brother Wells, and seconded, at 19:46 hours. The motion was passed unanimously.
Respectfully submitted,
James L. Jester – President
Delmarva Emerald Society
